April Happenings at GVP Studios

March Reflections: From Branding to Full-Circle Moments

Lifestyle studio newborn session

March at GVP Studios was defined by a beautiful variety of sessions. In the studio, we welcomed babies, headshot clients, and stunning beauty sessions. We also loved seeing our space used by other wonderful artists who rented the studio for maternity and boudoir shoots.

Our downstairs neighbor, Ritual Wellness House, hosted some fantastic classes and workshops, including their Wellness Happy Hour on Wednesday nights. We even had the chance to snap some behind-the-scenes photos at one of their recent events.

Senior Portraits at the UC Davis Arboretum

The sunny conditions in March were an unexpected gift for our outdoor work. One highlight was a senior portrait session at the UC Davis Arboretum. I’ve photographed this sweet girl since she was four or five years old, and it was such a full-circle moment to capture her senior portraits as she prepares to move into adulthood.

Catta Verdera wedding

As the month ended with rain, we were reminded of last year’s wedding at Catta Verdera. We managed a ceremony downpour by strategically using covered areas and popping in and out of scenic locations on a golf cart between drizzles, eventually moving the celebration inside for a grand reception.

Elopement in Oakland

Spring also kicks off our wedding season, which often brings its own set of surprises. We recently photographed a beautiful elopement in Oakland that happened to fall on an unseasonably hot spring day. Even with the unexpected heat, the intimacy of the ceremony was stunning. It’s a great reminder that whether it’s a sudden downpour or a heatwave, we are there to navigate the elements and ensure the focus stays on the celebration and the art we are creating together.

Collaborative Growth with Apix

We also held several fabulous corporate headshot events and branding shoots for small businesses through our sister company, Apix. As a cooperative of photographers, Apix provides photo, video, 3D tours, and drone services for personal branding and companies across Northern California.

Recently, we worked with the cybersecurity company Proofpoint at the Kimpton Sawyer hotel, photographing staff and partners between seminars and social mixers.

We also took on a project perfectly aligned with our values: Ming’s Recycling in Sacramento. Recently featured in Comstock’s magazine, they have a brand-new facility with advanced sorting machinery. we captured photo and video of the machinery being installed and its first run—stay tuned for more as we finish post-production!

The Final Product: Why We Build the Design Center

Best 9 Frame from a February family portrait session'

The GVP Studios experience is defined by the transition from a digital capture to a physical heirloom. Through our Design Center, we guide you in selecting archival-quality materials. A digital file is a backup; a hand-crafted, linen-bound album or a custom-framed gallery piece is an investment. We specialize in creating tangible art that stays in your family for generations.

Celebrating the Now We have some exciting beauty sessions coming up with fabulous women who simply want to celebrate themselves. Any occasion is the right occasion for this. I’ve never had anyone regret taking photos of themselves when they look back. You’ll never be as young as you are today, but it is also such a gift to reach the age you are at now. That alone is enough to celebrate.
